Description: The territory of the project covers the whole Alytus County ant two municipalities of Kaunas County. The territory covered by the project is 6,579 sq. kilometres. The size of the population is 245, 616. A feasibility study for “Alytus Region Waste Management System Development” was conducted to identify the least cost approach to closure of gaps in quality and service level of the present management system according to the time limits of the national plan for implementation of relevant EC Directives.

This contract is to provide technical assistance to the Alytus RWMC over a period of 24 months. It is designed to provide assistance to the RWMC, initially in the preparation and award of the waste collection contract, secondly during the implementation of the project and ultimately in the operation and management of the sector.

Types of services provided:

Support Alytus RWMC in order to manage the project implementation;
Provide assistance for ARWMC in developing waste management systems in the region;
Prepare the necessary documentation in order that ARWMC could start its activities as regional waste management system co-ordinator;Provide assistance in evaluating all documents that ARWMC is required to approve during the implementation of other project components;
Provide daily assistance in project management;
Provide assistance in introducing a charging system for waste management services in the region;
Provide assistance in preparation of necessary documentation for taking a loan;
Public awareness raising campaigns;
Project and team management.
