Description: Panevezys County is located in the northern – eastern part of Lithuania, bordering with Latvia in the north. It consists of 6 municipalities: Panevezys city, Panevezys district, Pasvalys, Birzai, Rokiskis and Kupiskis. The county’s area amounts to 7881 km2. The population number is 297,800 in 2003. The County’s administrative centre is Panevezys.The Project principally comprises the preparation of a 20 year waste management plan for the County of Panevezys. Project solves waste segregation, collection, transportation, treatment and utilization problems. Current disposal equipment opportunities, replacing them with one or two regional landfills, constructed conforming EU and Lithuanian standards, are analyzed. Preliminary new landfill model, rehabilitation of dumpsites, composting equipment, amenity sites and transfer stations’ options are provided in the project.

The technical assistance is being provided in Lithuania and UK by senior professionals consisting of nominated experts with disciplines covering project management, economics, finance, civil, waste management, engineering, planning and environmental science.
