Description: The Neris Basin covers an area of 24,942 km2, and just near the half of the basin (13,850 km2) is in Lithuania’s territory. The project area is in the Eastern part of Lithuania and borders on Belarus and Latvia. Neris river basin in full or partly covers area of 10 districts of Utena, Vilnius, and Kaunas Counties including Vilnius city and Visaginas town.The project concept is to establish a 10 year Master Plan for the improvement of water management in the Neris Basin area, comprising a prioritised schedule of investments designed to meet the requirements of the EC Urban Wastewater Directive 91/271 by 31/12/2009. The technical assistance is being provided in Lithuania and UK by senior professionals consisting of nominated experts with disciplines covering project management, economics, finance, civil, water and wastewater engineering, planning and environmental science.
