The modernisation of the infrastructure on these lines is one of the priorities of the National Transport Policy in the context of implementing the strategy for the EU AccessionThe first stage of construction of Vaidotai Yard, was completed in 1989 but the second stage was never started, leading to inefficient, unsafe operations and high maintenance costs due to the use of old equipment. There is an excess, of sorting tracks but a shortage of arrival and departure tracks.

The marshalling yard at Radviliškis is better laid out but has similar equipment. This Yard has a lower priority.
