Description: Kazlu Ruda is a small town of about 8000 inhabitants in the southern part of Lithuania. Only 60-80% of the population are connected to water and sewage services. The town is located on the Jure River, a tributary of the Sesupe River, the main river flowing through Lithuania. The quality of potable water, and the collection and treatment of wastewater are seen to be important factors in the future development of the industry and tourism in the town. JacobsGIBB and Vilnius Consult has been appointed by CFCU to review the existing situation and improve the water and wastewater treatment plants. This would be in context of the raw water sources, treatment and supply, wastewater collection, treatment and disposal of sewage and sludge. The objective is to provide a feasibility and EIA study in accordance with the Phare programme requirements. The project study period is six months beginning July 2001, with a total identified funding of Euro 2.7 million. The technical assistance is being provided in Lithuania and UK by senior professionals consisting of seven nominated experts with disciplines covering project management, economics, finance, civil, water and wastewater engineering, planning and environmental science.
